Introduction
The Indian Students Association of Bonn-Cologne is excited to introduce Kaleidoscope, our first-ever community magazine. It is a space for students and community members to express themselves, share their experiences, and celebrate their creativity.
Just like a real kaleidoscope brings different colours and shapes together to create something beautiful, this magazine will bring together different stories, perspectives, talents, and memories from our community.
Our first edition is a special Diwali Edition, celebrating creativity, connection, culture, and the many forms of light we carry within us.
The Concept Behind Kaleidoscope
Every person has a story worth sharing.
Some stories are expressed through words. Others are captured through photographs, drawings, recipes, poems, or personal memories. Kaleidoscope brings all these forms of expression together in one shared magazine.
The magazine is not only about Diwali celebrations. Diwali is the starting point and the inspiration for our first edition. Contributions may explore festival memories, student life, culture, identity, friendship, belonging, life in Germany, personal experiences, or any idea that matters to the contributor.
People do not need to be professional writers, artists, or photographers. They simply need something meaningful, interesting, or creative that they would like to share.
What People Can Submit
- Personal stories and experiences
- Poems and short creative writing
- Essays and opinion pieces
- Photography, illustrations, and artwork
- Diwali memories and traditions
- Family or festive recipes
- Experiences of student life in Germany
- Stories about culture, identity, and belonging
- Travel experiences and community memories
- Fresh, thoughtful, and bold ideas
If a contribution does not fit neatly into one of these categories, it can still be submitted. Creativity does not always need a label.
Submission Guidelines
Written submissions. Essays, stories, articles, and other written contributions should ideally be within two pages and must not exceed three pages. Keeping written work concise will help us include more voices and creative contributions in the magazine.
Poems and short pieces. There is no strict minimum length for poems or very short creative writing.
Photography and artwork. Visual submissions may be sent separately with a title and a short description, if relevant.
Submission details. Contributors should include their name, the title of their work, and a short description when helpful.
Review and Publication
Our editorial team will carefully review every submission. Selected contributions will be included in the first edition of Kaleidoscope. We may contact contributors if we need a small clarification, correction, or formatting change before publication.
Once the magazine is published, contributors will be able to read it, share it with friends and family, and proudly keep it as a record of their creativity and their contribution to the ISABC community.
